Why I took a break (and why you should too)

After Christmas and Boxing Day I decided I would take a little break from the constant need to push content and advertise.

Seems like a small thing to most but it was extremely difficult for me to actually do it but I'm so glad I did.

Since the beginning of the year, I strived to update my social media channels, this blog, the shops and more, constantly. When you are running a small business it is so important to remain relevant and top of mind and for an e-commerce business that means using social media to really knock it out of the park.

After my busiest Christmas season yet (which I am beyond thankful for) I became super ill. Which unfortunately was a result of a terrible sleep schedule and working myself down to nothing. Boxing day rolled around and my content schedule was empty - but instead of pushing myself to write and create more - I decided to make the decision to just not.

To not...

  • make any new products
  • post on social media
  • update my shop
  • reorganize my site
  • schedule content
  • plan for 2019

I needed a break - and honestly, if I hadn't of taken said break I honestly think I would have crashed a burned. This is why I think it's so important.

I am THE DEFINITION of an overachiever, I want to work and work, and hit those goals and milestones. I want to go above and beyond and I want to be proud of what I am doing - but doing this can often lead to being high stress, all the time, and that's simply not good for your mental health.

So this year - my only "resolution" is this - take a break. When you want to relax, relax; when you want to not design, don't design; when you don't feel like posting on social media, don't post. This year I want to keep my stress levels minimum and my happiness levels high.

I hope you'll do the same!
